Information session about our new Thio-Sul® plant in Geleen

Today, Tessenderlo Kerley International (a business unit of Tessenderlo Group) organized an information session to present the plans for its new liquid fertilizer plant in Geleen (the Netherlands). The new factory for the production of Thio-Sul® (ammonium thiosulfate), a liquid fertilizer used for fertilizing broad-acre crops, will be built on the Chemelot industrial estate.

“With the new plant in Geleen, the group’s second Thio-Sul® plant in Europe, we are further expanding our local presence in the liquid fertilizer market for precision farming. The Geleen plant responds to the growing demand for liquid fertilizers from the European market,” explained Geert Gyselinck, Executive Vice President Tessenderlo Kerley International. In September 2017, Tessenderlo Kerley International opened its first European plant for the production of Thio-Sul® in Rouen (France).

Construction works on the Geleen plant are planned to start in April 2022. The factory is scheduled to be operational from the second quarter of 2023 and it will employ approximately 20 people.

Loek Radix, CEO Chemelot: “With Tessenderlo Kerley International and its sustainable fertilizer specialties, we have another global player strengthening the position of Chemelot as key fertilizer player of West Europe. Furthermore, Tessenderlo Kerley International’s project contributes to captive use of ammonia within Chemelot and the integration of residual heat. All and all, this project reinforces all three main goals of the Chemelot strategy: to be the most sustainable, safe and competitive chemical site in Europe. It is with great pride that I welcome Tessenderlo Kerley to Chemelot.”
